FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about iSeal® Heavy Duty Tire Sealant, installation, performance, and tire compatibility.

Product Performance & Benefits

1. What makes iSeal® Heavy Duty Tire Sealant different?

iSeal® Heavy Duty Tire Sealant is a proprietary, water-based formulation engineered to provide permanent, on-the-wheel puncture sealing and continuous protection against air loss.

Unlike temporary tire sealants, iSeal® is designed as a one-time application that remains active throughout the service life of the tire.

In addition to sealing qualifying punctures, iSeal® helps reduce air loss associated with bead leaks, rim leaks, pinholes, and tire porosity.

By helping maintain proper inflation pressure, iSeal® reduces tire-related downtime and supports longer tire service life.

2. What size punctures can iSeal® seal?

iSeal® Heavy Duty Tire Sealant is formulated to seal punctures of varying sizes depending on tire construction:

  • 2-ply tires: Punctures up to ¼ inch (6.35 mm) in diameter.
  • 8-ply and higher tires: Punctures up to ½ inch (12.7 mm) in diameter.

Actual sealing performance depends on tire construction, puncture location, operating conditions, and proper application quantity.

iSeal® provides permanent, on-the-wheel puncture sealing for qualifying punctures without requiring tire removal.

3. How long does iSeal® last?

iSeal® Heavy Duty Tire Sealant is engineered as a one-time application that provides continuous puncture-sealing protection throughout the service life of the tire.

Its stable formulation resists separation and is designed to remain effective under normal operating conditions.

When properly stored, iSeal® has a shelf life exceeding 10 years.

4. How does iSeal® help prevent tire underinflation?

Maintaining proper tire inflation pressure is essential for tire performance, safety, and service life.

iSeal® helps retain inflation pressure by sealing qualifying punctures and reducing slow air loss caused by bead leaks, rim leaks, pinholes, and tire porosity.

Reducing air loss helps minimize downtime, premature tire wear, and excessive heat buildup associated with underinflation.

iSeal® does not eliminate the need for routine tire pressure checks and inspections.

5. Will iSeal® balance my tires?

No. iSeal® Heavy Duty Tire Sealant is not intended or marketed as a tire-balancing product.

Tire and wheel assemblies requiring balancing should be properly balanced before sealant installation.

Using the correct application quantity is particularly important in higher-speed applications. Excessive sealant may contribute to vibration or imbalance.

More sealant does not mean better performance.

Installation & Application

6. How much iSeal® should I install in my tires?

The recommended quantity depends on tire size, construction, and operating conditions.

For accurate application quantities, use the iSeal® Sealant Calculator, available online and through our mobile application for iOS and Android.

Always follow the recommended application quantities. Overapplication does not improve sealing performance and may contribute to tire imbalance.

7. Should iSeal® be installed as preventive maintenance or used to seal existing punctures?

Both. However, preventive maintenance is the recommended application.

iSeal® is designed to be installed before punctures occur, providing continuous protection against air loss throughout the service life of the tire.

When a qualifying puncture occurs, iSeal® works to seal the opening as the tire rotates, forming a durable, long-lasting seal without removing the tire from the wheel.

Unlike temporary tire repair products, iSeal® is designed to provide permanent, on-the-wheel puncture sealing.

iSeal® can also seal certain existing punctures when the tire remains structurally sound and the damage falls within the product’s sealing capabilities.

8. Do I need to shake or mix iSeal® before installation?

No. iSeal® Heavy Duty Tire Sealant is formulated to maintain a stable, uniform consistency during normal storage and use.

Its formulation resists separation, eliminating the need for routine shaking or mixing before installation.

9. Can iSeal® be used in liquid-ballasted tires?

Yes. iSeal® Heavy Duty Tire Sealant can be used in compatible liquid-ballasted tire applications.

The recommended mixture ratio is 1 part iSeal® to 15 parts liquid ballast (1:15).

iSeal® Heavy Duty Tire Sealant is compatible with water, calcium chloride, and Anti-Freeze. If using another ballast material, contact iSeal® for specific application recommendations before combining the sealant with liquid ballast materials.

Tire Compatibility & Safety

10. Can iSeal® be used in tubeless and tube-type tires?

Yes. iSeal® Heavy Duty Tire Sealant is compatible with both tubeless and tube-type pneumatic tires.

Sealing performance in tube-type tires may vary depending on tube construction, quality, fitment, and puncture location.

Proper installation and application quantities are important for optimal performance.

11. Will iSeal® damage tires or be absorbed into the rubber?

No. iSeal® Heavy Duty Tire Sealant is formulated for compatibility with the natural and synthetic rubber compounds commonly used in pneumatic tire construction.

The formulation is designed to remain inside the tire without being absorbed into the rubber, providing continued puncture-sealing protection throughout the tire’s service life.

12. Will iSeal® cause corrosion to wheels or rims?

iSeal® Heavy Duty Tire Sealant contains corrosion inhibitors and is formulated to help protect compatible wheels and rims.

However, tire sealant cannot reverse existing corrosion or restore severely deteriorated wheel surfaces.

Wheels exhibiting significant rust or corrosion should be properly cleaned, inspected, and prepared before sealant installation.

13. Is iSeal® flammable?

No. iSeal® Heavy Duty Tire Sealant is a water-based, nonflammable formulation.

For additional product safety and handling information, consult the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

14. Is iSeal® compatible with Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS)?

Compatibility depends on the design and location of the TPMS components.

Some external monitoring systems may be compatible, while internal sensors exposed to the sealant may not be suitable.

iSeal® is not recommended for passenger vehicle tires or applications with incompatible TPMS equipment.

Consult the equipment or TPMS manufacturer before installation.

15. What temperatures can iSeal® withstand?

iSeal® Heavy Duty Tire Sealant is formulated for demanding operating environments, with a specified temperature range of −30°F to 285°F (−34°C to 141°C).

This broad temperature range makes it suitable for many agricultural, construction, industrial, and commercial tire applications.

Maintenance, Repair & Retreading

16. Can tires treated with iSeal® still be professionally repaired or retreaded?

Yes. Tires treated with iSeal® may remain suitable for professional repair or retreading, provided they meet applicable inspection and serviceability requirements.

Before repair or retreading, the sealant should be removed, and the tire interior should be properly cleaned and dried.

A qualified tire professional should inspect the tire and determine whether it is suitable for repair or retreading in accordance with accepted industry practices.

The presence of iSeal® does not automatically disqualify a tire from repair or retreading.

17. Does iSeal® eliminate the need for conventional tire repairs?

iSeal® is designed to provide permanent, on-the-wheel puncture sealing for qualifying punctures within its specified sealing capabilities.

Unlike temporary emergency tire sealants, iSeal® remains active inside the tire, providing continuous protection against subsequent punctures.

However, iSeal® does not restore damaged tire structure. Tires with structural damage, unsafe injuries, or conditions outside the product’s sealing capabilities require professional inspection and appropriate repair or replacement.
